Dear Friends: On February 7, 2008, the Commission presented its 12-Month Report to the County Board. Our first year was devoted to gathering information and listening to concerns of stakeholders. To date, we have identified our goals and objectives and gathered information. Going forward we will use this as the basis for developing the preliminary 2030 plan. We expect 2008 to be an exciting and productive year, and hope that many of you will attend our meetings and offer us your thoughts as we work together. Sincerely, Charlie Eldredge Chairman, McHenry County Regional Planning Commission ---------------------

Dear Friends: During our first year, the McHenry County Regional Planning Commission has primarily gathered information. We have listened carefully as stakeholders from McHenry County and the region shared with us their views of issues for our consideration in developing the plan. Most of the monthly meetings of the Commission’s seven subcommittees were taken up with presentations from groups who wished to be heard, the list is far too long to fit into this letter. We considered several presentations – notably the township governments and all of the surrounding counties, both in Illinois and Wisconsin – too broad to be heard by the subcommittee, so we asked them to come before the full Commission. We felt that communication with municipal government was so important that we asked the McHenry County Council of Governments, to send a representative to our Commission meetings to keep us abreast of municipal concerns. Of course our subcommittees met with municipalities in more depth to understand particular individual community concerns. Based upon what the Commission heard from these presentations, the subcommittees have developed preliminary findings which will be reviewed by the full Commission in developing the final plan. We will report to the County Board at its February 7, 2008 meeting at 9:00 a.m. and encourage you all to attend. Going forward we will begin to develop the plan itself. We hope that many more people, whether representatives of a stakeholder group or simply interested citizens, will attend our meetings and speak out at our public comment periods. This is your plan, we value your input, as we work together to plan for a wonderful McHenry County going forward to 2030. Sincerely, Charlie Eldredge Chairman, McHenry County Regional Planning Commission ---------------------

July 25 , 2007
Over the past several months, the McHenry County Regional Planning Commission’s primary focus has been on developing a set of goals and objectives that would guide the county into the future. The Commission worked diligently to find goals and objectives that would help preserve the way of life for long-time McHenry County residents, but at the same time provide opportunity for those who wish to make their homes here. The Commission was also cognizant of the future generations and the impact that our decisions will have on our children and grandchildren. It was a mighty task indeed. In the link are the goals and objectives that the Commission has forwarded to the McHenry County Board for advice and consent. None of these goals or objectives is chiseled in stone; rather, this is a ‘living document’. It will undoubtedly change as the Commission begins to receive new information about housing, economic development, farming, other governmental units’ long-term plans, environmental and agricultural information. In the coming months, the Commission will begin meeting (and some subcommittees already have) with a variety of groups that will provide the Commission with invaluable insight and expertise on a variety of subjects. Already the Commission has met with the McHenry County Farm Bureau, the Executive Director of the McHenry County Economic Development Corporation, the McHenry County Conservation District, members of the gravel and mining industry, staff of the McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation District and USDA-NRCS, and staff of McHenry County College. Please keep visiting the Commission’s website for more information on meeting with groups that might be of interest to you. Sincerely, Charlie Eldredge Chairman, McHenry County Regional Planning Commission ---------------------
